CLASS Observer Trainings | Agenda for Children

CLASS Observer Trainings

Agenda for Children periodically offers CLASS Observer trainings as part of our service to the early childhood community. The virtual, multi-day CLASS Observer trainings prepare participants to identify, understand, and code teacher-child interactions. Upon completion of a training participants will be eligible to test for CLASS Observer Certification.

Participant Benefits

  • Gain in-depth knowledge about CLASS
  • Benefit from instruction and guided practice provided by a CLASS Affiliate Trainer
  • Hone observation and coding skills in preparation for the CLASS reliability test

Important Notes on Registration

Registration for Class Observer training sessions closes four weeks in advance of the workshop to allow for a timely delivery of materials. A registration fee of $325 includes the cost of participants’ training materials. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. Registration priority is given to Orleans Parish program partner staff. All registrants must work in one of the following parishes:

  • Assumption
  • Lafourche
  • Orleans
  • Plaquemines
  • St. Bernard
  • St. Charles
  • St. James
  • St. John
  • St. Tammany
  • Terrebonne
  • Washington

Participants should only register if confident they will attend.

Upcoming CLASS Observer Trainings

CLASS Observation Training sessions are generally offered in the months of June, July, and August in order to build observer capacity before the beginning of the school year. Sessions will be listed in April along with the deadline for registration for each. The dates and links to registration for the sessions will be found on this page. When you select a session and click for more information, you will be taken to our training portal where you may create/use your Agenda for Children participant account for registration and payment.

Seating is limited for these sessions and they may be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met. In the event that Agenda for Children cancels a training, we will work with you to attend a later session, if available, or we will refund your registration fee.

CLASS 2nd Edition Pre-K-3rd Observation Transition

The Louisiana Department of Education is requiring Early Childhood Community Network Lead Agencies to transition from using the original 2008 Pre-K CLASS (1st Edition) to using the new 2nd Edition CLASS Pre-K-3rd tool to conduct observations in all classrooms serving 3-5-year-olds beginning this August 2023. Agenda for Children is not currently offering 2nd Edition CLASS Pre-K-3rd Observation training, however there are two ways to become a certified Pre-K-3rd observer. Please review the following pathways and choose the method that works best for you:

  1. Go through Teachstone directly to register and attend a Teachstone trainer-led 2nd Edition Pre-K-3rd Observation training. Here is the link to Teachstone’s Training schedule.
  2. If you have a large group, you can work with Teachstone to request a 2nd Edition Pre-K-3rd Observation training directly from them at this link. (scroll to the bottom of the page)
