Summer Safety Summit
Registration Now Open!
New Orleans area educators of children ages birth through 8 are invited to join us for this FREE, IN-PERSON event at the University of Holy Cross. The Summer Safety Summit will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 9AM-3:30PM and will include a workshop series facilitated by the Institute for Childhood Preparedness. This event will provide participants with strategies, materials, and the confidence they need to successfully keep their classrooms and centers safe.
The Summer Safety Summit will be conducted by experts specializing in early childhood emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. The summit will include courses on the following topics:
- Cybersecurity for Early Childhood Professionals– This presentation offers a comprehensive look at the current digital landscape and the potential impact on your early childhood program. Recognizing the increasing integration of technology into all facets of early education – from enrollment to classroom management, the course highlights potential risks and threats that early childhood programs may encounter in cyberspace and provides leading practices to help increase the cybersecurity of your organization.
- De-Escalation Techniques– As you have no doubt experienced, tensions are running high. Now, more than ever, it is important to be proactive and ‘lower the temperature’ to prevent situations from escalating. In this course, we examine real world incidents and discuss proven techniques to help prevent unnecessarily escalating a situation.
- Fire Safety and Prevention– The Fire Safety and Prevention course is designed to equip early childhood professionals with essential knowledge and practices to prevent and respond to re emergencies within their programs. Participants will learn about basics, including chemistry, the components of a inspection, and common inspection violations. The training also covers proper extinguisher use using the P.A.S.S. method and provides actionable steps for developing a comprehensive re response plan.
- Active Shooter Preparedness for Early Childhood Professionals– During the Active Shooter Preparedness course, participants will learn evidence-based techniques and strategies on how best to prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident. The course will also provide information on how best to conduct drills, develop a plan and work together to ensure staff, teachers and children are best prepared.
Light breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided as well as valuable materials related to the training.

- Yes, we will have light breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
- How should I dress?
- Please dress comfortably but professionally for your full day of learning. Bring a sweater in the event that the space gets chilly.

- Sessions begin promptly at 9am. Doors open at 8:30. Please arrive by 8:45 to secure your seat.
